Past Exhibition dates: February 2021 – March 21, 2021
Artist: Jeff McDonald
This exhibit is drawn from two distinct bodies of Jeff McDonald’s work.
Ten photographs are representative of much of Jeff’s black and white landscape work. As explorations of the interplay between shadow and highlight, this work tends toward the dark side with lots of shadow detail together with areas of contrasting highlights. The seven color photographs are drawn from his 2019 “Weekend in Chicago” project. He has great appreciation for, but limited exposure to, Chicago’s architecture. These photographs are mainly of architectural details he found interesting during a very brief trip, along with some of the wonderful abstractions that you see on a sunny day when the light creates an interplay of reflection between big buildings in the city.
Jeff would like to thank Jim Welninski, Julia Anna Gospodarou, and the late Jack Curran for their inspiration, feedback, and encouragement.
About Jeff McDonald
Born in west-central Iowa in the late 1950’s, Jeff grew up on a dairy farm in southern Wisconsin. After college, he spent many years working in information technology and executive management with a large supplier of musical instruments and related products. He later spent many years working at a local bank as its information security officer and a member of its board of directors. He currently performs IT, web, and accounting work for a local company and runs a consulting practice to private IT clients. Photography has been his passionate pursuit for about 15 years.
Jeff’s photography has been recognized with awards at international photography exhibitions in the US, Australia, Canada, Europe, and Asia. His photographic interests include black and white, long exposure, landscape, architecture, street, and still-life photography.
“My objective as a photographer is to produce remarkable images. Motion, unusual visual perspectives, and interesting light intrigue me, as do the found elements of a scene that challenge one to frame them into an interesting composition.”
Jeff is a Whitewater Arts Alliance board member and chairs its annual Fran Achen Photography Competition.
