Power and Light: Oils by Chuck Weber
Exhibition dates: April 18 – May 30
Escaping the challenges of this past year, Chuck Weber has thrust us headlong into an an escape to the great outdoors and the world of high energy color. As a portrait and figurative artist, Chuck is obsessed with the human form in all its representations.
This “Power & Light” series is no exception, featuring high contrast, high drama figuratives filled with light and color, shadow and movement. Runners, bikers, swimmers, rowers, and “people in motion”. These oils are all about the play of light and shadow, the flash of color, the energy of movement. Often Chuck has skewed, cropped and rotated the images in a figurative and literal blur of movement, violating edges and equilibrium alike to the point of abstraction. This Fauvist approach to color saturation and “dynamic tension” creates singular interpretations of high energy.
Chuck is a full time portrait and figurative artist, and resident of the lake country of Waukesha County. He earned degrees in Marketing and Art from St. Norbert College, and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin– Madison and Marquette University. Following a career in advertising, as the founder of Milwaukee-based Weber-Leicht-Gohr, Chuck sold the firm in 2001 to chase an encore career in fine art.
Since then Chuck has been honored by Oil Painters of America, The Portrait Society of America, The National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, Best of America, International Artist, and Richeson75.
His signature works hang in a host of private and public collections, including Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum, NBC, Kraft/General Foods, Northwestern Mutual, CBS Sports, West Bend Insurance, Columbia/St. Mary’s Hospital, Acuity Insurance, Dean Foods, Marquette University, R&R Insurance, Pepsico-Gatorade, General Electric, Trek Bicycles, the City of Waukesha, Gibson Guitars, Pro Health, and Horizon Healthcare.
