Chicago Printmakers Collaborative: Michelle McCoy
Exhibition dates: September 12 – October 17
Chicago-based artist Michelle McCoy is a visual storyteller who works primarily in the mediums of printmaking and drawing. She studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. An archivist-librarian by day, her artwork often reflects the literary and historical texts and images she encounters. Her etchings weave together incongruous representations, past and present, with a bit of whimsy to tell story variations. Sometimes referred to as speculative fiction, these fantastical and historic elements are employed as metaphors explore the hubris of culture and politics, and the relationship of humans to the natural world.
She has been a member of Chicago Printmakers Collaborative for over a decade and has work in their 30-year anniversary portfolios.
