Artist: Megan Sterling

Hailing from Idaho, Megan Sterling (she/they) moved to Chicago in 2005 to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, after receiving their BFA in Printmaking from Boise State University. Megan has taught full time at Harrington College of Design, worked more independently as an artist and teacher, managed the Printmaking Facilities at Columbia College Chicago and is now the full-time Assistant Director of Printmedia Technical Facilities at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Megan exhibits her prints and large scale drawings regularly in Chicago and across the country including New York, Cleveland, Boise, Portland, and St. Louis.

“Confronting oneself is a difficult task. Yet, I often find myself facing that difficulty. Knowing what my pain is, the way in which I veil it, and what it reveals about me is the scope of my work. Weaving in and out of drawing, printmaking, collage, and installation, my artwork takes the form of interlacing levels of abstraction with representational imagery of fragmented figures. I use these images as a platform to explore my struggles with depression and anxiety as a result of deeper personal trauma.”
