Artist: Chuck Weber

In Europe, particularly through the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, classic art training incorporated apprenticed study at formal ateliers. There, promising students would assist practicing artist “professors”. Critical to their education was the study of the classical masters. While books were scarce and expensive; in the urban centers of Europe public art was everywhere. Students were expected to spend many hours studying and sketching the technical aspects, particularly sculptural figures and anatomy. These were the works of legendary artists; Carpot, Carravagio, Bernini, Donatello, Michaelangelo, Da Vinci, and many more. The High Renaissance of Florence fostered a flamboyant and rhythmic anatomical style that became the dominant characteristic of these masters.

In this tradition, Chuck Weber has created a collection of high drama “nouveau frescoes”. “ARTiquities”.While in his own right Chuck is a nationally recognized portrait and figurative artist, these works are a cross-pollonization of sorts; an interpretation and celebration of the architectural embellishments and powerful sculptural work of the Masters.

What’s old is new. Working in heavy gel mediums and distressed substrates, Chuck has translated sculptural works in marble, stone, and bronze. Using contemporary materials and saturated color, these singular studies bring vitality and high drama to the figurative poetry and romanticized anatomical flow of the Masters.

Chuck is a full time portrait and figurative artist, and resident of the lake country of Waukesha County. He earned degrees in Marketing and Art from St. Norbert College, and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin– Madison and Marquette University. Following a career in advertising, as the founder of Milwaukee-based Weber-Leicht-Gohr, Chuck sold the firm in 2001 to chase an encore career in fine art.
